South AfricaWe are based in Cape Town South Africa and we serve the whole country of South Africa. As far as we know it, we serve the WHOLE CONTINENT too. There is an ember glowing in the Johannesburg area, a group of people who are discussing starting an event related to Afrika Burns.
At Burning Man in BRC, Monique herds up the giraffe crew who camp together, Mike is another giraffe and Paul is part of the GamelanX monkey chant camp.

| discussion lists: | In South Africa we have been using the "bush telegraph", as we are a smallish community and word of mouth is quite effective. So far the discussion has taken place around dinner tables, fires, bars and all sorts of gatherings, but we are about to create forums on MySpace and Facebook. Currently there is much talk about all sorts of things related to Afrika Burns and the Burning Man ethos; for example, what this thing called "gifting" is all about. |

Recent Events:
On the 13th of January we had our first major gathering of the African crew,
an orientation of the ethos of Burning Man and the Black Rock Arts foundation.
It involved a collaborative community building of what turned out to be a large
vessel with a man on it. This was burned, which then naturally led to a full
evening of festivities!
