Austin is Texas's beautiful hilly capitol. Austin is home to a very active burner community and works closely with communities in Dallas, Denton, and Houston to host the Burning Flipside event over Memorial Day. Our local event has grown from 30 participants in 1998 to an expected 2450 in 2011. In 2010 the event successfully moved to the beautiful Apache pastures, our third location in 13 years.
The Austin community participation at Burning Man ranges from building the Temple in 2009, a complete village in 2000, and many individual theme camps. Many Austin participants volunteer at Burning Man as rangers or DPW. The community is active year round with activities, Art projects, and meetings at our warehouse. We are a diverse population with many interests and artistic outlets. Wednesday nights are "church night" with art and socializing at our warehouse. Tickets to Flipside sell out in January, so mark your calendar.
