Off Playa

The Michigan Burners community has over 500 members on our lists designed to welcome interested burners to our growing community, build connections, foster unique and unusual gatherings, and grow artistic and community participation. We welcome you to our burner world!

While we mostly serve the great Metro Detroit area many come from all over the state including Ann Arbor and farther north and west. If you are on the west side of the state please consider contacting our Western Michigan Regional.

We also play nicely with many members from Illinois (Chicago BM), Ohio, Wisconsin and who can forget our family across the Detroit River in Canada… from London to Toronto!

Together many of us help create a Great Lakes region event held in Michigan called “Lakes of Fire” – for all of the states (and provinces) that border the mitten state.

We have a chapter of Burners without Borders, started in 2009. Burners without Borders Detroit is an opportunity to help others in your area. You do not have to give money which you may not have instead give of yourself and get out and do community service that not only helps others but leads to building stronger community, networking and friendships with people you might not otherwise come in contact. We currently do this by creating random acts of kindness & service to Detroit Homeless 1 supply filled backpack @ a time. Always accepting donations, to get involved: detroit@burnerswithoutborders.org

In 2008, we worked with the Motor City Blight Busters and David Best to raise a burning man-inspired temple in the city of Detroit. This project brought burners and investments from around the country! Visit Detroit Dream Project for more info.

We encourage people to come up with ideas on Meet n' Greet events and would love to meet you at one of them. We welcome your input, creativity and joy on the Michigan Burner list -- stop in and say hello.

On Playa

In recent years our community has used the desert as a platform to build a steel roller coaster (the flame-dabbled "Roaster Coaster" in 2004), a recreation of the best (and worst) of Detroit… in cardboard (2005), and hosted some of the craziest camps (Camp Burning Baby Jesus (2006) Oh, and a Burning Man grant funded Quixotic Windmill Project (2005) and the Esplandade camp: "The Shadow Chamber" (2006).

Videogasm is a camp with many Michiganders.

Videogasm truck transport gear from Midwest to Playa.

Michigan campers have found home on the playa at the Snowflake Village.

Many Michiganders also camp at Nexus.

Ubercarney Themecamp's Roller Coaster of Doom.
