Detroit
About 300 burners now call Michigan home base, and we invite you to join us! In recent years we've used the desert as a platform to build a steel roller coaster (the flame-dabbled "Roaster Coaster"), a recreation of the best (and worst) of Detroit… in cardboard, and hosted some of the craziest camps (Camp Burning Baby Jesus) and the best parties (Nexus!). Oh, and there were those windmills and the massively cool Esplandade camp Shadow Chamber, too. We host numerous burner and burner-friendly events during the year, including the annual Great Lakes region event – Lakes of Fire – for all of the states (and provinces) that border the Big Waters.
In 2008, we worked with the Motor City Blight Busters and David Best to raise a burning man-inspired temple in the city of Detroit. This project brought burners and investments from around the country!
We have monthly meet n' greet events and would love to meet you. We welcome your input, creativity and joy on the Michigan Burner list -- stop in and say hello. Or, stop by Snowflake Village on the playa to find some Michigan burners in person.
