As the birthplace of Burning Man and the base of its operations for 20 years, it is only natural that San Francisco has a vibrant, active Burning Man community, including its staff and volunteer base, many theme camps, artists, and villages, and all manner of participants. Gathering regularly at events all around the city, these folks represent all kinds of burners: some have been attending since the early days, and others have just moved to the area or began attending in more recent years. Either way, thanks to our history here, there are more burners in San Francisco than in many other places combined.
The Burning Man Project itself presents Special Events for the Burning Man community in San Francisco, from Decompression, held annually in October, to community picnics in Golden Gate Park, open fire jams at the Burning Man offices, roller skating parties and parades, Town Hall meetings, and more. San Francisco is also the home of dozens of theme camp gatherings, related workshops and classes, artist warehouses, and an overall deep and rich Burning Man culture in the City by the Bay.
