Regional Contacts
San Diego
San Diego is a very laid back place. And we are a pretty laid back community.
We have events going on all the time. Be they large weekend camp outs of 600+, or small beach fire jams, of four or five. There is always a place that you can come to find us.
Our online community is fabulous. We are estimated to be around 1500 strong, but probably larger, because most Burners around here do not want to deal with a discussion list. They are busy making art, or surfing, or hiking, or selling cheese. But they usually check in once in a while.
We have pretty constant weather out here, and it is usually pretty dry. On top of that, this is Southern California. A walk down the boardwalk in Pacific Beach, is a lot like a walk down the Esplanade in a lot of visual ways. You will see old men covered in glitter body paint, rollerblading in slow motion to his own personal sound system playing classical music. That sort of stuff happens here. So, we don’t even stand out.
We have an LLC that has been established to provide us with a blank canvas to play upon.
We have two Regional Contacts located in San Diego. One in the downtown area, the other in the northern part of the county around the Escondido area.
We serve the Burning Man community within San Diego County. However we also quite often work with the Orange County folks a lot and have a close relationship with them as well as many people from LA and even a few from San Francisco.
Our Community has well over 20 theme camps and has come together as Shangri La Village for Burning Man for several years. Shangri La Village has been a collaboration with the Arizona, and Las Vegas Burning Man communities.
One of our former RC’s, Mark Hinkley is opening a charter school that is based on Burner Values. The Xara School will opening Fall 2009.

Recent Events:
We have recently started an LLC for our community and plan to continue our
Decompression events. We have also been getting together to make temporary
art in the medium of sand at San Castle Sundays. We have a lot of weekend long
events, and lots of fire spin jams and lots of nights out on the town. But
most things happen on the theme camp level and not on the overall community
level. But when the whole community gets together, well those are the times
that you want to be there.
Please check back for even more information about the Burning Man community
in your area. We're gathering more details — coming soon!
