Austin - Central Texas

Regional Community

Austin is home to the first Burning Man Regional Event, Burning Man Texas in June 1998. In 1999 the event was renamed Burning Flipside, and moved to Memorial Day (which is the traditional beginning of summer, the Flipside of Labor Day). The first event had 30 people. The just concluded 2014 event had approximately 2800 participants.

We have a very active community with a year round warehouse and unofficial camping events. Most Wednesday evenings "Church Night" is held at our warehouse which is a social gathering and also an opportunity to work on art projects or other workshops.

Flipside participants volunteer in all aspects of the Burning Man organization: Rangers, Gate, Perimeter, Department of Public Works (DPW), Greeters, Medical, Fire Safety, and Playa Restoration to name a few. Volunteering at Burning Man provides tremendous depth in our community’s volunteer experience. In addition to numerous theme camps and art projects, the Austin community contributed the Temple of Times 2013 CORE project, The Ouroborous 2011 CORE project, and the Temple of Fire, in 2009.

We also have many community members in the DFW/Denton and Houston Areas. Come join our very active burner community.
