Our 2nd Annual Shanghai Regional DECOMPRESSION takes place this Saturday October 19 at The Mansion – see flyer on the left!
About the Shanghai Regional Group
In the famed Asian Mega-City with over 20 million inhabitants our events brings and meet-ups cover a network of Burners from Nanjing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, and Ningbo. Shanghai burners are members of various playa theme camps. We make plans to meet-up with other China-based Burners on the Playa each year. In 2012 three Shanghai Burners camped together, possibly the earliest formation of a Shanghai Theme Camp. Together they visited the Chinese Speaker's Tea Party to meet the hosts from other regions such as Beijing.
A Message from the Shanghai Regional Contact
It is my life goal now to hold a satellite burn here in the Middle Kingdom. We are building a community of local and foreign-born Chinese along with the many international expats. We are searching for Chinese and international artists that are interested in Burning Man experience and have the resources and know-how to create something for our first local Burning Man event in Summer 2013 (date to be confirmed soon). To make this all possible in China, we must go beyond the 10 Principles of Burning Man and make sure that our event and artists are safe and responsible, respectful to the local communities and laws.
So far we have a few artists and organizers at the core of our group, but we need a few more adventurous people to solidify the team who will make the 2013 event happen.
Get involved and find out about local happenings by signing up on our Announcement list, chat with other Burners on our Discussion lists, or follow us via your social media of choice - but definitely come out and get involved!
The Shanghai Announce list is a moderated announcements-only list for events of interest to local Burners. Recipients get regular updates, event listings, and Burning Man news from this list.

“I was present at the beginning. Toured L.A. with the Zone Tour #2 of the Cacaphonists then witnessed a Baker Beach Burn in 1987, then left for Asia in 1989, where I still reside. Returned for Burns in 1996 and 2001, I now work for a day when we can hold a regional burn event somewhere in Great Pandaland. Join us!”
