Regional Contacts

New Zealand

I am a 10 time veteran of Burning Man, having discovered the festival by accident while on a camping trip In the Black Rock desert back In 1994. It has changed my life and In 2006 I celebrated my tenth burn. This life changing passion for all things Burningman Is what resulted In me becoming the regional, and creating Kiwiburn In New Zealand. I live In Wellington New Zealand and have served the country as the regional contact since 2003.

I carry out kiwiburn duties with a trusty bunch of dedicated burner "committee" folk who reside In Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch and Perth (in the "west Island" of New Zealand!).Key among these people are Wendy (aka Dr Windy) and the Kiwiburn site man Chris (aka Kiwi). Thankfully these and the other wonderful "committee" people have taken on the responsibilities of festival organisation and community development that used to be virtually all mine. This has allowed me to concentrate on being the "ambassador" for Burningman, which is appropriate with my regular travel to the States. I also have more time for my Burner family (Jane has been to the playa 8 times, Lewis 4 times, and Toby 1 time). You can easily find out about our wonderful kiwiburn community on the kiwiburn website. Come visit! Oh yeh, and OF COURSE I am going to burningman this year!!!

main contact: Mark Stirling/Yonderman
burning since: 1994
personal quote: I wanted a burner community "downunder" where I thought It could never happen…so I created one.

Recent Events:

Held 4 kiwiburn festivals, the latest being In the town of Mangakino In early February 2007. Theme was "Megamorphosis", which was an appropriate name for the massive growth of the festival from its "gestation period" in the hippielands of Golden Bay. Parties, dance events and simple gatherings now take place all year round In Wellington (most of the committee live In Welly), Auckland and occasionally In Christchurch. Our first kiwiburner wedding occurred on Waiheke Island In March 2007.
