Kiwiburn is the name of our main New Zealand regional Burningman event, held every year since 2004. Kiwiburn has progressively grown in size and diversity, and is held for five days in the Mangakino area of the central North Island in late January (in the NZ summer). The regional contact does essential tasks like creating events and community in the regions, sharing/gleaning information from the worldwide Regional network, and maintaining connectivity between Kiwiburn and the Burningman office in San Francisco. Kiwiburn is also served by a talented, hard-working and dedicated executive committee (Ex-Com).
How did Kiwiburn start? I (Yonderman) lived in Reno Nevada for five years while completing a Ph.D., and in that time went to a number of the early Burningmans (1994-1997). Burningman was life-changing for me, and after moving back to New Zealand my inspiration was to create a New Zealand Burningman community so that I could share it with people downunder and create a wonderful burner community to have around me. Call it do-ocracy at its best! I still manage to make the pilgrimage to Burningman relatively frequently. Black Rock City and Nevada will always be my home away from home.

Recent Events:
Kiwiburn festivals in the North Island town of Mangakino have been held since February 2007. The first theme was MegaMorphosis, which was an appropriate name for the massive growth of the festival from its "gestation period" in the hippielands of the South Island's Golden Bay. We've also had CombustInUnity, Future History, Elementality, and Twisted Reality in 2011.
Parties, dance events and simple gatherings now take place all year round In Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch. Our first Kiwiburner wedding occurred on Waiheke Island In March 2007.
