AfrikaBurn is our annual gathering in the Tankwa Karoo desert in South Africa, and is now in its fourth year. It is inspiring, inventive, interactive, giving, well attended (1,000 participants in the first year, 1,200 in the second and 1,400 in the third) and fun, with an amazing bunch of participants and fantastic levels of participation. There is much art, many theme camps, performance and a few art cars. This African burner community is growing; the Burning Man ethos has been well embraced and is bubbling with a distinct African flavour. Back in the default world, much Afrika burner action is popping up all over the place, with theme camp fundraisers, art projects, collaborations, discussion groups, and movie showings being on the calendar regularly.
The main hub for the organizing of AfrikaBurn is in Cape Town, although there is widespread support and participation from all over the country and further north into the rest of the continent. There are AfrikaBurn representatives in Johannesburg and Durban.
In 2008 we received a grant from the National Arts Council (which functions under our state Department of Arts and Culture) to build our central effigy, the San Clan.

Upcoming Events:
This year AfrikaBurn will be held from 22 - 27 April 2010 in the Tankwa Karoo, Northern Province, South Africa. The closest city to fly to from abroad is Cape Town. The event is a 4 hour drive away. The main burn of the San Clan effigy will happen on Sunday the 25th April 2010 as Monday and Tuesday are public holidays in South Africa.
